Di banyak tempat, UMKM lahir seperti orang masuk hutan sendirian. Membawa parang kecil. Membawa bekal seadanya. Berharap menemukan jalan.
Sebagian berhasil keluar dari hutan. Sebagian tersesat. Sebagian lagi kehabisan tenaga sebelum menemukan matahari.
Kita terlalu sering memuja keberanian memulai usaha.
Banyak orang miskin sebenarnya rajin. Sangat rajin. Mereka bangun sebelum ayam berkokok. Pulang saat langit sudah gelap. Tetapi hidup mereka tetap sulit. Mengapa?
Karena mereka bekerja tanpa sistem. Seperti orang mendayung perahu bocor.
Ketika satu pohon kekurangan air, ekosistem membantu menopangnya.
CUKK: Sekolah Kehidupan Ekonomi
UMKM anggota KKA (dinamakan UMKM Agro) tidak dibiarkan tumbuh sendirian. Mereka harus menjadi anggota Credit Union Keling Kumang (CUKK) terlebih dahulu.
Banyak orang mungkin bertanya: mengapa harus begitu? Bukankah itu memperpanjang proses?
Justru di situlah letak kecerdasannya.
CUKK bukan sekadar tempat simpan pinjam. Ia adalah sekolah kehidupan ekonomi. Tempat orang belajar mengatur uang. Belajar disiplin. Belajar menunda kesenangan. Belajar membedakan kebutuhan dan gengsi. Belajar tentang risiko. Belajar tentang solidaritas.
Maka sebelum seseorang memegang usaha, ia terlebih dahulu belajar memegang dirinya sendiri.
Itulah fondasi.
Sekolah Lapang di KKA Farm
KKA lalu melanjutkan proses itu melalui Sekolah Lapang. Calon pelaku UMKM Agro anggota KKA praktek di KKA Farm di Penyangkak, Sintang. Di sinilah mereka ditempa.
Mereka tidak langsung disuruh menanam jagung hibrida, menanam kakao, menanam aren, beternak ayam petelor, atau membuka usaha pupuk organik. Mereka belajar dulu. Karena orang yang berpengetahuan sulit dikalahkan.
Belajar membaca tanah.
Belajar memahami pasar.
Belajar menghitung biaya.
Belajar mengenali hama.
Belajar mengelola arus kas.
Belajar memahami kegagalan.
Belajar bekerja sama.
Belajar membangun mental tahan banting.
Karena pertanian modern bukan lagi soal cangkul. Ia adalah ilmu. Ia adalah manajemen. Ia adalah strategi.
Bisnis Bukan Perjudian
Hari ini banyak orang masuk bisnis seperti orang masuk sungai deras tanpa belajar berenang. Ketika arus datang, mereka panik. Ketika harga jatuh, mereka menyerah. Ketika gagal panen, mereka hancur.
Padahal bisnis bukan perjudian.
Ekosistem Seperti Tubuh Manusia
Ekosistem koperasi bekerja seperti tubuh manusia.
Padahal kekuatan terbesar koperasi bukan uang.
Membutuhkan akar. Membutuhkan ekosistem.
GKK sedang mencoba membangun tanah subur itu. Mungkin jalannya panjang. Mungkin hasilnya tidak langsung meledak.
Tetapi seperti bambu, pertumbuhan paling penting justru terjadi di bawah tanah terlebih dahulu. Akar diperkuat sebelum batang menjulang.
Menuju Persemakmuran Koperasi

In many places, an MSME is born like someone walking into the forest alone. Carrying a small machete. Carrying meagre supplies. Hoping to find a path.
Some manage to walk out of the forest. Some lose their way. Some run out of strength before they ever find the sun.
We too often glorify the courage to start a business. But we forget to ask: is that small person walking alone, or walking alongside a system?
That is the great difference between an ordinary MSME and an MSME within a cooperative ecosystem.
It Begins from the Human Being
In the Keling Kumang Movement (GKK), and particularly through Koperasi Produksi Keling Kumang Agro (KKA), the idea of an MSME does not begin from “what to sell”. It does not begin from “how much profit”. It does not begin from “let me borrow capital first”.
It begins from the human being.
From the formation of awareness. From education. From character. From a way of thinking.
Because business without knowledge often becomes nothing more than a new machine of suffering.
Many poor people are in fact diligent. Very diligent. They rise before the roosters crow. They go home when the sky is already dark. Yet their lives remain hard. Why?
Because they work without a system. Like a person rowing a leaking boat. Their energy is spent bailing out the water that comes in. Not on moving forward.
This is where the cooperative ecosystem works like a great forest that holds itself up together. Large trees protect small seedlings from excessive heat. Roots reach for one another underground. When one tree runs short of water, the ecosystem helps to sustain it.
CUKK: A School of Economic Life
MSMEs that are members of KKA (known as UMKM Agro) are not left to grow on their own. They must first become members of Credit Union Keling Kumang (CUKK).
Many people may ask: why must it be so? Doesn’t that only lengthen the process?
That is precisely where the wisdom lies.
CUKK is not merely a savings and loan institution. It is a school of economic life. A place where people learn to manage money. To learn discipline. To learn to delay gratification. To learn to distinguish between need and pride. To learn about risk. To learn about solidarity.
It is at CUKK that the doctrines of Education, Solidarity, Self-Help, and Cooperation are planted.
People who cannot manage their personal finances usually struggle to manage a business too. So before someone takes hold of an enterprise, they first learn to take hold of themselves.
That is the foundation.
The Field School at KKA Farm
KKA then continues the process through the Field School. Prospective UMKM Agro members of KKA practise at KKA Farm in Penyangkak, Sintang. This is where they are forged.
They are not immediately told to plant hybrid corn, to plant cocoa, to plant sugar palm, to raise laying hens, or to open an organic fertilizer business. They learn first. Because a person who carries knowledge is hard to defeat.
Learning to read the soil.
Learning to understand the market.
Learning to calculate costs.
Learning to recognize pests.
Learning to manage cash flow.
Learning to understand failure.
Learning to work together.
Learning to build a resilient mind.
Because modern farming is no longer a matter of the hoe. It is a science. It is management. It is strategy.
Business Is Not Gambling
Today many people enter a business the way someone enters a rushing river without learning to swim. When the current comes, they panic. When prices fall, they give up. When the harvest fails, they collapse.
Yet business is not gambling.
Business is knowledge put into practice with discipline.
Within the GKK cooperative ecosystem, a person is not pushed to become an entrepreneur simply because it is trending. They are guided to find their passion. Some fit in oil palm plantations, some in livestock. Some are strong in horticulture. Some are gifted in food processing. Some have the soul of a trader. Some are better suited to managing distribution.
An Ecosystem Like a Human Body
The cooperative ecosystem works like a human body.
CUKK becomes the heart that circulates financial education, self-help, cooperation, and solidarity.
KKA becomes the hand that works in the agro sector.
The other real sector cooperatives (KKU, KKTJ, KP-APKS), together with the need this year to establish a Cooperative for Educational Services and a Cooperative for Women in 2026, become the legs that extend the economic movement.
The Keling Kumang Education Foundation (which oversees SMK KK and ITKK) becomes the brain that produces knowledge.
All are connected to one another.
A Social-Economic Orchestration
That is why MSMEs within a cooperative ecosystem are not merely a gathering of small traders. They are a social-economic orchestration.
There is education. There is financing. There is mentoring. There is a market. There is a network. There is solidarity. There is ideology.
And most importantly: there is a shared direction.
This is what many people fail to grasp when they see a cooperative only as a money-lending institution. They see the leaves, but never the forest.
Building Human Beings Collectively
Yet the greatest strength of a cooperative is not its money.
The greatest strength of a cooperative is its capacity to build human beings collectively.
When education succeeds, members are born who are not easily fooled by fraudulent investment schemes.
When education succeeds, farmers are born who understand the quality of their produce.
When education succeeds, MSME actors are born who pursue not only turnover, but sustainability as well.
When education succeeds, a society is born that slowly leaves behind the mindset of “earn today, spend today”.
And there the cooperative becomes a civilization.
Like Bamboo
We are often impressed when we see advanced countries with modern agriculture, large supermarkets, a strong food industry, and prosperous rural communities. But we forget: all of that was built by a long system. By disciplined education. By strong organization.
No great tree grows in a single night.
Neither do MSMEs.
They need fertile soil. They need roots. They need an ecosystem.
GKK is trying to build that fertile soil. The road may be long. The results may not explode immediately.
But like bamboo, the most important growth happens beneath the soil first. The roots are strengthened before the stem rises.
Toward the Co-operative Commonwealth
And when one day thousands of KKA members truly become smart, disciplined, modern agro MSME actors, all woven together within the cooperative ecosystem, outsiders may see only the final result: villages full of life, farmers’ children attending university, lively local markets, agro products reaching supermarkets, cafes, airports, in-flight menus, and families that live with greater prosperity.
They may think it happened because of capital.
Yet everything began from something simple: education.
And the courage not to let small people fight on their own.
If one day this happens on a massive scale, MSMEs will rise from MSMEs within the Cooperative Ecosystem to MSMEs within the Co-operative Commonwealth, fully oriented toward local products and local wisdom.
